San Pablo completes Wildcat Creek restoration, trail Project

The Wildcat Creek Restoration and Greenway Trail Project is completed and the trail is now open to the community, the City of San Pablo announced Wednesday.
“The project restored 2,200 linear feet of creek and constructed 2,100 linear feet of trail with a bicycle and pedestrian path, 2,000 native riparian trees and shrubs,” the city stated. “The trail between Church Lane and Vale Road will be a crucial link in the future Wildcat Creek Regional Trail, connecting the San Francisco Bay and Wildcat Canyon Regional Park Ridge Trails.”
The use of the trail by bicyclists and pedestrians will also help prevent illicit activities along the creek corridor, the city said. ....

3 free roundtrip ferry rides offered to eligible local commuters

Three free roundtrip rides on the Richmond Ferry, which currently takes commuters to and from San Francisco during weekday commute hours, are being offered to local residents who would have otherwise driven alone to work.
The Water Emergency Transit Agency (WETA) is offering the free rides via the Hopthru app, which can be downloaded in the iOS and Android stores.
To qualify, one must be an adult who lives or works in Contra Costa County, who typically drives alone to work and who agrees to complete a brief questionnaire aimed at assessing the program’s effectiveness. Also, individuals who have received any 511 Contra Costa promotion or program incentives from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, are not eligible to receive this incentive. ....

Legislative Update: A Few Bills on Transit

There are a lot of bills this session that address transit in one form or another. Many are still “spot bills,” the word used for placeholders that don’t yet contain anything specific and give little idea about what their authors intend. We will be keeping an eye on these as bill hearings begin and amendments begin to be made.

Speeding up Bus Service on the Bay Bridge
A major chokepoint for transit in the Bay Area is crossing the bay itself. A few bridges and the BART tunnel currently are the only ways across, and talk of adding crossings is for the distant future. Increasing riders on transbay buses has the potential of solving a lot of problems at once: reducing car congestion on the bridge, reducing pressure on BART, reducing greenhouse gasses and other pollutants. ....

CCTA Executive Director Randy Iwasaki Retirement Announced
The Contra Costa County Transportation Authority announced that Iwasaki will retire at the end of the month. He will be replaced by Timothy Haile, who has served as executive director for projects since 2017.

Randell Iwasaki, a leader and advocate for transportation innovation in the San Francisco Bay Area, is stepping down.
Iwasaki, the executive director of the Contra Costa County Transportation Authority (CCTA) for the last 10 years, will enter retirement beginning Dec. 26, CCTA announced. Iwasaki will be replaced by Timothy Haile, who has served as deputy executive director for projects at the agency since 2017. ....
