Dam Removal Rejection Pt 2 - AG INFORMATION NETWORK OF THE WEST

Dam Removal Rejection Pt 2
Tuesday May 18th, 2021
I’m Bob Larson. The proposed removal of four dams on the lower Snake River is a bad idea. At least, as far as U.S.
Representative Dan Newhouse is concerned. He says while Idaho Republican Mike Simpson, who proposed the removal, is a valued colleague, this is just not the answer for saving salmon …
NEWHOUSE … “I agree with the concern that this jeopardizes not only the agricultural industry in the Pacific Northwest, but so many other things that have been made possible because many of the benefits the dams provide, not the least of which is clean, carbon free, renewable hydroelectric energy.”

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s nominee to head the Interior Department faced sharp questions from Republicans on Tuesday over what several called her “radical” ideas that include opposition to fracking and the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Deb Haaland, a New Mexico congresswoman named to lead the Interior Department, tried to reassure GOP lawmakers, saying she is committed to “strike the right balance” as Interior manages oil drilling and other energy development while seeking to conserve public lands and address climate change.

A burst of Arctic air is bringing “bone-chilling cold” to Southcentral Alaska this week, said National Weather Service meteorologist Pam Szatanek.
Low temperatures early in the week will be in the minus teens in portions of Anchorage, Szatanek said, the chilliest yet in the season. The cold is expected to last through the week.
“There’s a 0% chance that it’ll get above freezing in the next five days,” Szatanek said.
Cold air returning this weekend continuing into early next week. Bundle up!
Along the Kenai Peninsula, Szatanek said, temperatures could drop to 10 below zero throughout the week.
