Sanwo-Olu seeks Return History’s to school curriculum

The wife of the governor of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called for the return of History as a subject to the school curriculum in the state.
A statement on Wednesday said she spoke during a facility tour of the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau.
According to the statement, she commended the agency for preserving the historical records of the state, adding that tours should be organised for students to have firsthand information about the rich history of Lagos.
“I strongly believe that History as a subject should be returned to our school curriculum, just as keeping monuments in archives for posterity is key. For instance, the dress I wore on the inauguration day could be archived for children to see and appreciate in the years to come, just as the dress Queen Elizabeth wore during her visit to Nigeria in 1960 is being preserved,” she added. ....

Former Attorney General of Lagos State, and Historian, Supo Shashore (SAN), while speaking on the history of Lagos State, has clarified that there isn’t any differentiation between inhabitants of Isale-Eko and Lagos-Island.
He made this known during his keynote address at the recently held Isale-Eko Day Symposium organised by the Isale Eko Descendants’ Union as supported by the Alliance Francais, Mike Adenuga Centre.
According to Shashore, “Lagos Colony existed before Nigeria as a Country and was entering into treaties with foreign sovereigns before the amalgamation of Nigeria.
“We are not children of a scramble. We are cosmopolitan because we choose to be so and we must continue to confront the Nigerian state that there exist an indigenous people who own the heritage of Lagos.” ....
