WASHINGTON: CAE’s acquisition of L3Harris’s Military Training unit continues the Canadian firm’s efforts to expand and broaden its US defense portfolio, especially with the Air Force, say company officials and industry analysts.
“CAE will be a very good parent, hungry to grow its USAF training portfolio, plus become a larger DoD contractor,” one US market analyst said in an email.
“The proposed acquisition represents a significant value creation opportunity for all CAE stakeholders. It accelerates our growth strategy in Defence and Security and is highly complementary to our core military training business, broadening our position in the United States,” said Marc Parent, CAE’s president and CEO in a statement this morning announcing the buy. ....

CAE today announced it will acquire L3Harris Technologies Military Training business for $1.05 billion.
The Acquisition value represents approximately 13.5 times the L3Harris Military Training business estimated adjusted 2020 EBITDA(1) or approximately 10 times, including cost synergies, which are expected to reach a range of C$35 to C$45 million (approximately $28 to $35 million) annually by the end of the second year following closing of the Acquisition.
The Acquisition is expected to be low-teens percentage EPS accretive to CAE in the first full year post closing, including expected cost synergies. The closing of the Acquisition is expected in the second half of calendar year 2021, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. ....

The U.S. Air Force today awarded CAE USA-Mission Solutions a $11 million fighter aircraft training contract.
“CAE USA-Mission Solutions Inc., Tampa, Florida, has been awarded a $11 million modification contract for the F-15E, F-16 and F-22A contract aircrew training and courseware development contract. The modification is for exercising Option Year Four,” the U.S. DoD said in a statement.
Work will be performed at Joint Base (JB) Langley-Eustis, Virginia; Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina; Shaw AFB, South Carolina; Tyndall AFB, Florida; Nellis AFB, Nevada; Hill AFB, Utah; and Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, and is expected to be completed March 31, 2022. ....

Police, Army foil Maoists' terror plot, deactivate 83 IEDs in Bihar's Gaya

A joint operation launched by the Bihar police and the Army averted a major terror attack planned by the Maoists near the Chakrabandha police station area in Naxal-affected Gaya district in Bihar. The security forces recovered and disabled 83 IEDs planted on the road.
A police official on Saturday said an operation was carried out by the security forces against the Maoists on Friday in the border areas of Aurangabad and Gaya districts.
As many as 83 landmines planted by the Maoists in the Chakrabandha forest across 150 metres were recovered which were later disabled.
205 Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA), the 159th and 47th battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were involved in this operation. ....
