Cleveland Community College breaks ground on Advanced Manufacturing Center

ROCKY MOUNT – Golden LEAF President, Chief Executive Officer Scott T. Hamilton joined N.C. legislators, state and local officials, and Cleveland Community College trustees and staff gathered recently for the official groundbreaking of the new 30,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing center. The new center will provide training programs in mechanical drafting, electronics engineering technology, automation engineering technology, industrial systems technology, and computer integrated machining.
The new center was a result of several funding partners including, $9 million from the North Carolina General Assembly, $2 million from the Connect NC Bond, and $1.5 million in Community-Based Grant Initiative funding awarded by the Golden LEAF Foundation Board. ....

Gunsmithing course coming to CCC


The college will offer its first ever gunsmithing course starting in January.  
The trade of repairing, modifying or building guns, gunsmithing gaining popularity from entrepreneurs and hobbyists alike. The average age of gunsmiths working in the industry is increasing, creating a demand for newer, younger smiths to enter the field.  
“This is a program we would like to develop, depending on interest in the area,” said Bruce Mack, vice president of economic and workforce development at CCC. 
At Cleveland Community College, the gunsmithing course will focus on safely handling and disassembling weapons as well as machining parts to repair broken components.  ....
