Flowery city oasis Nano Nagle Place reopens at 10am next Tuesday 18 May.
“We’ve been painting, power washing, and pruning, so the grounds look better than ever – including our new secret courtyard garden,” said Shane Clarke, CEO at Cork’s hidden gem.
The team have been hatching plans for a summer of family fun and culture.
The Faces of Learning exhibition will be in the front windows and the brilliantly titled Changing Habits summer exhibition, celebrating 250 years of convent life at Nano Nagle Place, launches in August. ....

THE legacy of Frederick Douglass, the 19th century US social reformer and civil rights activist, is being explored from a musical perspective in Cork this week. The former slave, turned abolitionist, once journeyed through Cork and Ireland, at the time of the Great Famine, and it left a mark on his life and future teachings.
Most Cork and Irish people knew little of Douglass until recently, but this impressive celebration of his impact brings his ethos into the 21st century. The challenges Douglass faced are mirrored today, a couple of centuries on, so his teachings are still relevant. ....

THE LORD MAYOR of Cork has said he “very much regrets” making a remark suggesting ‘all lives matter’ during an online event commemorating former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. 
Fine Gael councillor Joe Kavanagh made the remark while introducing an event as a part of a festival to celebrate the life of Douglass last night.
Kavanagh was questioned during the live-streamed event by a number of panellists over his use of language, however, he explained that the point he was trying to make was that “in my eyes ever ....
