Swindon Children's Scrapstore's boxes feed families in Lockdown 3

SWINDON Children’s Scrapstore is continuing to get food on the tables of struggling families and individuals to stop them “slipping through the cracks”.
Chiseldon Parish Council and the Scrapstore have been working together to feed people in the village since the start of the pandemic.
The Scrapstore says it has made over 1,000 food boxes since the start of the pandemic for Chiseldon, schools, and other organisations.
The manager of the Scrapstore, Olivia McCann, told the Adver: It makes me feel good that I can help in this way. It s not easy hearing some of the situations people have ended up in because of the pandemic. ....

Pledge to carry on food box scheme that has helped thousands

MORE than 4,500 people, including nearly 2,800 children, have been helped by a food box scheme launched during the first lockdown.
Boxes of Hope, run by volunteers at Gorse Hill Baptist Church, has delivered more than 1,300 boxes of food, toys and toiletries since June.
And the team is planning to carry on handing out Boxes of Hope for as long as it can because it expects the town to be affected by job losses.
Co-ordinator Heather Prictor said: “When we started we didn’t know how many it would be. It’s been really interesting but we didn’t really give a thought that we would still be going. ....

Families to enjoy 'best Christmas ever' after toy appeal triumph for domestic abuse service

FAMILIES who have escaped domestic abuse are enjoying a safe and happy Christmas thanks to generous Adver readers and a Swindon charity’s incredible efforts.
The Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service received a whopping 1,500 presents after this paper backed their annual appeal for gifts that children of all ages can unwrap on Christmas morning.
The vulnerable people the charity helps by offering a place in a refuge or support in the wider community have suffered a lot of hardship.
But this appeal and special festive fun and games arranged by staff and volunteers have made this holiday season a special one. ....
