During the next few weeks, USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service will conduct two major inquiries, contacting nearly 3,800 producers across South Dakota to determine crop acreage and grain stock levels as of June 1, 2021.

The results are necessary for everyone who relies on agriculture for their livelihoods. This includes those providing farm and ranch supplies, those purchasing commodities directly from the producers, and everyone else involved in ensuring a safe and affordable food supply reaches the consumer in a timely manner.” ....

Demand-pull inflation tends to benefit farmers, while cost-push inflation tends to hurt them.
Two types of inflation can drive the overall price level higher. Cost-push inflation occurs when production costs rise or supplies fall. Either will boost prices as long as demand remains the same. Too many dollars chasing too few goods drives demand-pull inflation. ....

Hog and Pig Inventory
The report showed that on March 1, all hogs and pigs were down to 74.773 million head, a decline of 1.8% from the same time last year. This decline surprised analysts as it was the opposite of what the industry was predicting and fell completely outside of the range of forecasts. Analysts had been expecting on average an increase of 0.1%, with the estimates ranging from a 1.5% decline to a 1.3% increase. This decrease was the first year- ....
