SPM NEWS 4.30.21 Officials with the Sioux City Police Department say a suspected murder-suicide claimed the lives of a Sioux City couple yesterday. Investigators say evidence at the scene shows that 60-year-old Nicholas Socknat may be responsible for the death of 51-year-old Kelli Socknat before shooting himself. The two lived together at a home near Morningside Elementary School. Spokesperson Sgt. Jeremy McClure says there are no reports of disturbances involving the couple. However, given the circumstances detectives consider this a case an of domestic violence. McClure add if anyone who is experiencing domestic violence, they can contact the police department or SafePlace, formerly known as the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence. ....

The Roanoke School Board decided Tuesday to postpone a vote approving the school districtâs 2022-26 capital improvement plan due to lingering questions about the selection process and concerns that crucial projects may be excluded. The board will vote at its next regular meeting on March 8. Multiple school board members said they wanted to see improvements at Westside Elementary included in the plan. They also asked questions about the selection process, concerned other needs may have been missed. âI just donât want to miss anything in terms of school needs,â Natasha Saunders said. The capital improvement plan is a five-year list â in this case, from fiscal years 2022 to 2026 â that maps out capital projects and appropriate funding sources. ....
