CCSD alert the public to two phone scams in Sheridan and Pennfield Townships

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – There are so many phone scams these days that it can be overwhelming.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says they found out Wednesday that a Sheridan Township resident had gotten a phone call from a man stating he worked as a civil process server for the Sheriff’s Department.
The man was said to be aggressive and demanded cooperation or the resident would be arrested. The phone number used by this male was (517) 237-3233.
On the same day, a similar incident took place in Pennfield Township when a resident was contacted by a Deputy Sarah Schultz but there is not a deputy by that name at the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. ....

Police & Fire: Man arrested after Sunday car chase

MAN CAUGHT: An 18-year-old man was caught and taken to the Calhoun County jail after driving recklessly Sunday. Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies said they saw a car about 9:10 p.m. on Morgan Road near North Avenue in Pennfield Township driving recklessly and nearly striking other vehicles at the intersection. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle the driver fled. At one point the fleeing car went off the roadway and into a ditch but drove back on the roadway and continued. The vehicle then turned south on North Washington Avenue and the deputy ended the pursuit because the vehicle was speeding through a residential area. Deputies later found the car had overturned in a yard on North Washington Avenue near Ardmoor Drive in Bedford Township but the driver had fled on foot. Deputies, using a police dog, attempted to find the driver and received information that he was hiding in a nearby home. The man was found and taken to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment of minor ....

Marshall man taken into custody after threatening police and others with a knife

MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Deputies from the Calhoun County Office of the Sheriff along with the Michigan State Police took a man into custody during the overnight hours in the 200 block of West Drive North in Marshall Township after the suicidal man threatened others with a knife.
The 36-year-old man from Marshall had earlier contacted dispatchers and said he was suicidal and armed and that he wanted to be killed by the police.
The man was said to be uncooperative and continued to call into dispatch demanding a police response. He also threatened to start harming other innocent people until Law Enforcement arrived. Mental health workers from Summit Pointe tried to talk to him but he refused any help. ....

A Marshall man, determined to commit suicide by cop, was safely taken into custody on Wednesday night. After efforts to talk the armed 36-year old into giving up failed, a deputy used a beanbag gun to subdue the armed man as he came toward officers with a large knife.
Sgt. Tim Howell of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department said in a release that it started about 9 pm on Wednesday (April 21
st), when a man called police dispatch, saying he was suicidal and wanted to be killed by police. Officers called him back and tried to reason with him but to no avail. When he kept calling dispatch and began threatening to start harming other innocent people, Sheriff’s Deputies and State Police headed to the home in the 200 Block of West Drive North in Marshall. ....

MARSHALL TWP., MI – A Marshall man is undergoing a mental health evaluation after repeatedly calling 911 and asking for police to come and kill him Wednesday night, leading to a brief standoff with police.
Emergency crews were called at 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, to a home in the 200 block of West Drive North in Marshall Township for a report of a man making suicidal comments, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, 36, of Marshall, had previously called 911 and told dispatchers he was armed, suicidal and wished to be killed by police. He demanded a police response or he said would start harming innocent people, police said. ....
