INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) Some people have decided not to get the coronavirus vaccine.
But, many of these folks are receiving backlash form others for their decisions.
“Vaccine shaming,” health experts say, is when vaccinated people lash out at others who have not been inoculated. The practice is dividing families, destroying friendships, and even affecting workplaces.
News 8 spoke with Kimble Richardson, a licensed mental health counselor at Community Health Network, for advice on people who find themselves in this situation can do whether it’s the shamer or the “shamee.”
“Most times when these things happen, people want their emotions to be understood along with the information. ‘I want you to hear me.’ And usually, that means not only do I want you to hear me, but I want you to understand me emotionally.” ....

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) For some people, the FedEx shooting is still fresh and making them feel any range of emotions.
Licensed mental health counselor Kimble Richardson with Community Health Network said on Monday that Thursday night’s deadly shooting already has impacted people’s mental health. “For most people, we really are almost still in the shock phase. Did this really happen? What? Right here in our own hometown?”
Richardson said some employees express reluctance to go back to work after mass casualty events at their businesses.
“Some of them. Some of them want to get back to work and go back to a routine. But, some people will have some anxiety about returning to the worksite; guilt sometimes about surviving; overwhelming sadness for people who lost their lives. All that’s very very normal and to be expected.” ....

INDIANAPOLIS Indianapolis is the latest city to suffer from mass violence. Nine families have been torn apart and forever changed. Five families are left waiting in desperate prayer. Many more families and individuals are walking away but with invisible wounds after the mass shooting at FedEx on Thursday night that left 9 people dead, including the gunman, and 5 people injured.
“You don’t have to go . too many degrees of separation before you know someone who knows someone who is a family member or friend of someone who works at FedEx so there are a lot more people who were indirectly exposed than were directly exposed,” said Dr. Dean Kilpatrick, Director of the National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center (NMVVRC).  ....
