Suit alleges Pierce County deputy's fatal shooting of man near Port Orchard used 'excessive force'

The estate of a man shot in the head and mortally wounded by a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy after a high-speed chase that ended near Port Orchard is suing, alleging the deputy used excessive force.
Brent Lee Heath, 35, died on Oct. 3, 2018, a year after Deputy Carl M. Shanks shot him at the conclusion of a 12-mile police chase that started on the Key Peninsula in Pierce County on Sept. 21, 2017.
Heath’s death had not been previously reported.

“The better way to have done this is just clarified with Mr. Campese and his attorney exactly what they wanted,” Enright said. “We misunderstood what they were looking for.”
Campese, who lives in Seattle, has produced a video and podcasts casting a critical eye on the Kitsap County Sheriff s Office-led investigation of the July 3, 2019, fatal shooting of Stonechild Chiefstick by a Poulsbo police officer.  ....
