Community council not bowled over by proposal to reduce rink space at Clickimin


LERWICK Community Council is to write to Shetland Recreational Trust to express concern over the prospect of Clickimin Leisure Complex’s indoor bowling area being reduced in size to make way for a soft play equipment for children.
It comes amid grave worry from the company behind plans for a soft play facility in Voe that installing larger equipment in the Clickimin would threaten the viability of their business venture.

The situation revolves around a proposal to install a soft play facility and sensory rooms in part of the indoor bowling room at the Clickimin, which would reduce the overall size of the bowling area from four rinks to three. ....

BOWLS: After a sustained period of inaction to allow green renovation and to mark the return from exile and quarantine of Greg “Hollywood” Holman, the Phuket bowls competition season finally returned in earnest to Kamala bowls club last Friday (Feb 19).

Last weekend saw the first-year singles tournament for men and women played at Whangārei and Kamo greens.
Men:
2nd: N.Third (Mangawhai) - 12 win points, 38 net shots
3rd: G.Wilson (Waipū) - 9 win points, 24 net shots

Twenty-eight 1-5 year bowlers took part in the junior singles last weekend. At the completion of day one, seven men and five women had qualified.
Congratulations to Paul Price (Whangārei) who took out the men s division by defeating Roger File (Kamo) in a closely fought and very competitive match. After 17 ends, File was in the lead 14-11 and then Price had a good run of scoring on the next three ends to take the lead 18-14. ....
