Concerns for users of bridge by new Kings Barton estate

CONCERNS have been raised about safety at a bridge near Winchester where a school bus crashed last September.
Several children were hurt when a bus struck the railway bridge on Well House Lane; but now councillors have said they are worried about other road users.
The area is now increasingly used by the public as the nearby Barton Farm/Kings Barton estate grows.
A set of traffic lights should have been installed there on the completion of the 200th house and now the estate has nearly 300 being lived in of the proposed 2,000 homes.
Cllr Jackie Porter told the Kings Barton Forum: It really does seem to need traffic lights system putting in. There are now nearly 300 houses. It feels like Groundhog Day, we have been discussing this for a year. We are seeing more and more people running, walking, cycling through that route. ....

Andover Road crossing: Campaign close to success

A CAMPAIGN for a new road crossing in Winchester appears close to success.
Campaigners have been calling for a crossing on Andover Road to connect the growing estate of Barton Farm with Weeke and Harestock.
Parents with children at the recently-opened Barton Farm Primary Academy were involved, fearing that the road posed a danger to children.
The campaign attracted cross-party support including city MP Steve Brine, local Liberal Democrats and parish councillors.
Now Hampshire County Council (HCC) has said it is drawing up plans for a crossing.
Senior county councillor Rob Humby on Friday briefed Mr Brine, Cllr Jan Warwick and Kings Barton resident Mike Slinn who last year presented a petition to the county council. ....
