The second phase of a countywide plan to address homelessness prompted praise from one North County city and criticism from council members in another amid concerns Lompoc doesn t get its fair share of resources.

IVRPD Votes To Reintroduce Proposal To Remove Houseless Residents From People's Park

At its March 25 meeting, the Isla Vista Recreation & Park District board of directors voted to reintroduce a proposal to return People’s Park, the only remaining park in Isla Vista available for houseless residents to legally reside in, back to its recreational capacity. All houseless residents would have to relocate as a result. 
After being offered People’s Park as a relocation space when IVRPD cleared out Anisq’Oyo’ Park, houseless residents face the possibility of another relocation.

The proposal is currently being worked on. The board did not say when they would bring back the proposal to vote on it.   ....

As nighttime temperatures drop this winter, people living outdoors have limited options for a warm place to sleep amid Santa Barbara County’s post-holiday coronavirus surge.
Per the public health recommendations, the Freedom Warming Centers need to space individual beds 10 feet apart during overnight stays to accommodate for distance while sleeping as well as for getting up to use the restroom at night, according to Erin Wilson, director of administration at the Unitarian Soc ....
