“I have high blood pressure and cholesterol” said nearby resident, Emma Miller.
Miller, an eastsider in her golden years, is now happy to have a new medical facility right down the street from her house, rather than having travel far to go a major hospital. ....

It should come as no surprise that Kristina Blake would get emotional after she was among the first in Alabama on Tuesday to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at University Hospital in Mobile.
The 54-year-old Mobile resident who has worked for three decades at USA Health, was fighting for her life about five months ago after contracting COVID-19 in early July and spending two weeks hospitalized. For nine of those days, she was in the ICU. She spent 11 weeks out of work recovering at home.
“It’s been very emotional for me today,” said Blake, after receiving the injection in her right shoulder. “This is a chance for life for me. I have been living in fear of catching it again.” ....

This is an opinion column.
If he could, Charles Barkley would be right up there at the head of the line, right alongside the scrubbed-up healthcare workers receiving the first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for all the world to see.
“Hell, yes!” he says.
Barkley doesn’t have any critical underlying conditions that qualify him for an early shot, so he knows he’s not likely to get the vaccine anytime soon. When his time comes though, he hopes to receive the shot publicly to help persuade still-skeptical African Americans to get vaccinated. ....
