Dr. Rodney Shotwell filed a lawsuit in Rockingham County Superior Court so a judge can decide if his firing was legal.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. Dr. Rodney Shotwell of Rockingham County Schools could keep his job as superintendent. The Board voted to fire him back in December 2020. Dr. Shotwell took that decision to court on Wednesday, just two days before his scheduled final day on the job.
Shotwell filed a complaint and a temporary restraining order. The presiding Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the restraining order, stating the Rockingham County Schools Board of Education cannot officially end Shotwell s contract until the Court makes further orders. The judge also stated Shotwell is likely to succeed on the merits of his claims . ....

Grassroots movement supporting superintendent says "Bring Back Dr. Shotwell"

EDEN â Hundreds of Rockingham County residents are piercing their lawns with signs that read Bring Back Dr. S Â â a show of support for recently ousted Rockingham County Schools Superintendent Rodney Shotwell.
And a grassroots coalition of parents, teachers and members of the local NAACP chapter and county Democratic Party have launched a movement with protests and a 1,500-signature petition calling for the longtime district head s reinstatement.
The students are shocked. The parents are outraged. The teachers are stunned and their morale has dropped, said Mary ED Ryan, a mother of a 16-year-old Rockingham Early College High School student who spoke at a Wednesday demonstration in Reidsville in support of Shotwell. ....

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. It s not often you see a political party defend a member of the
opposite party who was fired.
That s the current situation in Rockingham County.
On Monday, the Republican-led county Board of Education fired Superintendent Dr. Rodney Shotwell.
He s a registered Republican, according to online records. Thursday night, the Rockingham County
Democratic Party condemned his firing.
In a statement regarding the 4-3 vote, the party said it vehemently denounces the recent action of four members of the Rockingham County Board of Education. ....
