Gamble Montessori HS receives national sustainability award

James N. Gamble Montessori High School is one of the nation s 27 Green Ribbon Schools awarded this year for promising sustainability practices, the U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday.
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes Green Ribbon Schools that strive to reduce environmental impact and costs, improve the health and wellness of schools, students and staff and provide effective environmental and sustainability education, according to the website. Gamble Montessori was the only Ohio school recognized in 2021.

County agriculture organizations combine

The Champaign County Ag Association and the Local Foods Council have joined forces as the Local Ag Council committee under the Chamber of Commerce. Both organizations were working to enhance agricultural economic development and education in the community so joining forces made a lot of sense.
The Local Ag Council has some major projects underway, including the creation of a commercial shared-use kitchen to be used by food entrepreneurs. The kitchen is being developed in cooperation with Graham Local Schools and will be housed in the high school cafeteria.
A USDA Rural Development grant was received in 2018 to fund specialized equipment. The procurement of equipment is underway, though progress has been delayed because of the pandemic. Seeing no further delays, the Council hopes to open the kitchen for use this coming fall. ....

Graham students to return fully to classrooms

ST. PARIS Graham Local Schools will return to in person learning on January 4. During the month of December the district made the switch to Hybrid model of learning with students attending in person 2 days per week.
While this method has been better than being completely remote, there have been challenges. For teachers, their planning has significantly increased to be able to accommodate learning that is happening both at home and at school. For students, there is a sense of disjointed learning moving back and forth from the two learning styles. On the flip side, the hybrid model has allowed us to move students around due to staff being out of school. The smaller numbers of students have also benefited from a more personalized learning opportunity. ....
