Springtown meth dealer's convictions, 99-year sentences affirmed

Two methamphetamine distribution convictions and 99-year prison sentences a Parker County jury gave to a Springtown man in December, 2019 were upheld on appeal in a ruling rendered Thursday.
Donald Wayne Walker, 50, was convicted of delivering methamphetamine to an informant on two occasions. Audio and video recordings of the transactions were played for the jury during the trial.
“The biggest factors that led to Mr. Walker’s lengthy sentence were his extensive criminal record and the fact that these were drug dealing offenses,” said District Attorney Jeff Swain, who tried the case for the prosecution along with Assistant District Attorney Travis Warner. “He had eight prior felony convictions, 52 years of prior prison sentences, and was on parole for a 20 year sentence at the time of our trial. MW man indicted after pointing gun at two individuals

A Parker County grand jury recently indicted Troy Neil Smith, 39, of Mineral Wells, on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
On Jan. 13, a Parker County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to an address in Mineral Wells in reference to a person with a weapon, according to the probable cause affidavit. Upon arrival, a male at the scene advised the deputy that he was arguing with Smith. The male said Smith was holding a kitchen knife saying he was going to kill him.
“[Smith] threatened to call CPS to have the victim’s 5-month-old child taken away from them at which time the victim’s girlfriend […] started walking toward the defendant,” according to the affidavit. “The defendant pulled a gun out of his back pocket and pointed it at [the girlfriend]. The defendant then pointed the gun at the victim’s head with his finger on the trigger.” ....

In another sign that normalcy is returning to Parker County in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Parker County criminal justice system successfully completed its first jury trial proceeding since March, 2020.

th District Judge Graham Quisenberry summoned a jury panel to the District Courts Building in Weatherford to hear a felony drug offense.  A 12-person jury was selected, heard evidence, and returned a verdict Tuesday sending a defendant to prison.
“Going into trial, we weren’t sure what to expect from the jury panel,” District Attorney Jeff Swain said.  “It isn’t like going to a restaurant or to the grocery store, which are voluntary choices.
