Do you think there are other worthy venues for funding?


WHILST I wholeheartedly support the much-needed financial support Castle Howard, North York Moors Railway, Ryedale Folk Museum, Palace Cinema in Malton, Rural Arts North Yorkshire and several other worthy venues have received, reported on the front page article of the Gazette & Herald (April 7), three of these venues have already received quite a substantial sum from the Government’s Cultural scheme during the pandemic but I feel there are other equally worthy venues in need of financial support and are part of our heritage in North Yorkshire.
Here are a few worthy venues I’m sure would be more than pleased with a little more financial support from the Government: The Kirk Theatre in Pickering, will it reopen, even though the Government have hinted theatres will reopen but obviously with social distancing in place? Beck Isle Museum, a lovely museum about rural life in Pickering and the mining era in Rosedale, Eden Camp Modern History, The Museum, Malton, Hungate Commun ....

Funds are 'lifesaver' for regional arts organisations


CULTURAL and creative organisations across the region are to receive a share of £400m as part of a vital financial boost from the Government’s £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has announced details of more than 2,700 organisations being offered millions of pounds in grants and loans to help the culture and heritage sector reopen and recover from the pandemic
Among the recipients is Darlington Hippodrome, which will use its grant to offset losses from cancelled productions, retain jobs, secure the long-term future of the theatre and secure the purchase of new state-of-the-art cinema screening equipment.
Heather Tarran-Jones, the Hippodrome’s director of programming and development, said: “We are delighted to receive news of this second Arts Council England grant. ....

CASTLE Howard has been given a £4.5 million loan to help it survive the pandemic - while the firm which built Shakespeare s Rose Theatre in York has been given a £4 million loan.
Thirsk and Malton MP, Kevin Hollinrake said a total of £5,369,640 had been allocated from the Cultural Recovery Fund for culture and heritage organisations in his constituency to help make them financially secure over coming months.
He said the Castle Howard Estate was receiving £4,540,000, the North Yorkshire Moors Historical Railway Trust £578,000, the Ryedale Folk Museum £39,950, the Palace Cinema in Malton £21,490, Rural Arts North Yorkshire £55,000, the Wesley Centre in Malton £39,000, Pickering Methodist Church £28,700 and Scampston Hall & Walled Garden £67,500. ....
