Canton's historic fountain restored and flowing | Local History


CANTON — This week’s persistent rain was replaced Friday afternoon by a different shower at the center of the village.
After more than a century at its station on the village green — in varying states of functionality and decay — the Canton fountain is once again flowing. The Canton Park and Fountain Campaign, a fundraising effort that began five years ago, culminated this week in a celebration of the fountain’s revival.
About 150 people gathered in the park, where village Mayor Michael Dalton, town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley and the campaign’s co-chairs delivered remarks before the pump was turned on. ....

Water will flow again in Canton's historic fountain

Jul 08, 2021 The historic fountain in the Village of Canton s Green will flow with water again on Friday.
A grand re-opening celebration Friday at 1 PM.  Free baby ice cream cones will be available and several people will speak of the significance of the fountain to the village.
North Country Now reports that the fountain has been under renovations for the past five years.
The fountain was installed on the village green in 1898 by the Village Improvement Society. Last year it was sent away for restoration. It returned in May of this year.
The fountain s restoration was funded by donations to the Canton Fountain Park and Fountain Campaign. ....

Historic fountain returning to Canton

May 04, 2021 The Canton Village Park is welcoming back a historic landmark.
The iron fountain at the center of the park was reinstalled on Thursday after being removed for refurbishing.
According to North Country Now, the fountain was dismantled last August and shipped to Alabama for the overhaul. The fountain was first installed in the summer of 1898 by the Village Improvement Society. It has served as a scenic addition to the park since then. 
The restoration project was funded by donations to the Canton Park and Fountain Campaign.  ....

Bucks Designer House & Gardens opens Sunday

The historic Mearns Manor in Warminster has been transformed by designers and landscape artists as this year s Bucks County Designer House & Gardens.
The home at 545 Almshouse Road opens for tours Sunday as a fundraiser for the Village Improvement Association. COVID protocols and social distancing required. Tours run through May 30.
Mearns Mill Manor, which is on loan from the Heritage Conservancy, is an 1870s mansion with seven bedrooms, numerous fireplaces and unlimited period charm. Designers have put their touches on each room.
This fundraiser, in its 46th year, benefits Doylestown Health and the mission of the VIA. Each year more than 6,000 visitors from Bucks County, and beyond tour the Designer House.
