AMHERST A 19th-century home on South Pleasant Street that’s owned by Amherst College can be moved about a mile away from the site where it has been situated for nearly 150 years.
The two-story building at 205 South Pleasant St. will be brought to a vacant lot at 21 Baker St. after the Historical Commission gave unanimous approval last month to lift a yearlong demolition delay put in place last May. ....

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) The small buildings that once comprised a shopping center on the Georgia coast may not be getting a reprieve from the wrecking ball after all.
Chris Beaufait tells The Brunswick News that he planned to buy and move the 15 buildings that once made up Pier Village. He intended to store the buildings until new owners could be found.
But Beaufait said that it turns out the buildings are too large to move easily down the island’s roads, with low-hanging oak trees and power lines. ....

Editor’s note:  This is the second in an occasional series called “Top Blocks,” which looks at individual city blocks that have historic or architectural significance.
These days, we’re used to seeing residential blocks get built out fairly quickly, often with little architectural diversity from house to house.  The 2700 block of East Broad Street in Richmond’s Church Hill neighborhood is different.  Construction there spanned more than 60 years, and its 20 properties represent an architectural timeline for the neighborhood.
“This is one of the most diverse blocks in the city, but it all works together,” said Kim Chen, senior manager of Richmond’s department of economic development. ....
