CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ill. (WTHI) - The Crawford County Recreation Center will be on the campus of Lincoln Trail College. But the 3 million dollar facility is being built for Crawford County residents.
A gym and an indoor walking track will be featured in the center. During community surveys, residents said these indoor activities were needed during the cold months. Plans also call for multiple fitness studios, locker rooms, and gathering areas. ....

Crawford County to receive a new recreation center

ROBINSON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) Construction of a new recreation center on Lincoln Trail College campus will begin this fall.
The new facility will allow all residents of Crawford County to use the it. This decision comes after strong community support for the center.
“One of the main reasons that we wanted to do this is we wanted to keep improving the quality of life in Crawford County for everybody and that’s what this facility is really about,” says Chris Forde, Director of Marketing for Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.
Community members expressed their wishes to have another activity to do, and Forde believes they answered with the facility. ....

LTC Announces Staff Awards

Lincoln Trail College honored faculty and staff members for their service at the 42nd Annual Service Recognition Night.
Retiring English Professor Dr. Ann Wolven was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award. It is awarded to faculty members who have demonstrated sustained excellence and have adopted innovative or highly effective practices to aid student learning.
Wolven received multiple nominations for the award. Her letters of nomination noted her passion and skills as a teacher and reference the effect she has had on students. One of her nomination letters came from a student. “When I met Dr. Wolven, I did not feel like I was a ‘good student’.  I struggled with deadlines, organization, and motivation.  The workload was intimidating, and I felt like I was in over my head…she offered me help, she answered my questions, as she gave me every reason to trust both her and myself.” ....

LONDON: As coronavirus wreaks severe economic damage, some British employers stand accused of taking a highly controversial measure to stay afloat: fire and rehire.
The practice, which involves dismissing employees and re-engaging them on inferior terms, flared up in April, when British Gas dismissed almost 500 engineers after they refused to accept new contracts. Last year, British Airways staff battled with the national airline’s management over proposed fire-and-rehire schemes, while supermarket giant Asda faced a similar stand-off in 2019. ....
