Food truck permits, business licenses loom

Coming soon to Mesa: Business licenses and food truck permits.
While Mesa has plenty of food trucks slinging tacos and burgers – notably at the Feastable Forrest every Saturday evening at Pioneer Park – they are currently considered “peddlers.”
After a study session on the topic, Mesa City Council will vote this month on removing food truck employees from having peddler licenses, which require background checks, and creating a new category of “mobile food vendors.”
A presentation stressed this would be a quicker process for the food trucks, which would have annual inspections and pay $100 per year. The annual fee for peddlers and solicitors is proposed to increase from $30 to $100. ....

Brady: It wasn’t the cheapest, but you can’t always go on price
The Enfield, London-based business has installed a PFi Blade B2+ die-less digital cutter and creasing table, which was launched by Duplo earlier this month, to bring cutting and creasing for a wide range of products inhouse.
The 12-staff business runs a fully loaded HP Indigo 7900, which it upgraded to silver ink last year, and as a result it was initially looking at the original, smaller format PFi Blade. ....

Rising home values, growth lower Mesa taxes

Ah, the beauty of running a rapidly-expanding city: You can charge less, yet still have much more money to spend.
At a study session last week, the Mesa City Council was delighted to hear residents will be paying more in taxes this year.
Why?
Because Mesa renters and home and business owners will be paying less than expected.
During a presentation last May, council was told the $100 million Mesa Moves transportation bond would show up as an added $28 on a median homeowner’s tax bill.
Now, five months after Mesa voters approved the bond, Council received an update.
The owner of a median home ($279,000 value) is now expected to pay only about $10 more in taxes compared to last year, thanks to all the new construction that has expanded the tax base, lower borrowing rates due to the city’s AAA rating and other factors. ....

There are fears a beauty spot could be left covered in litter after an increase in illegal camping after lockdown restrictions eased.
In Porth Ysgaden, Gwynedd, there have been reports of human waste left on paths and toilets emptied into the sea after people parked up overnight.
One wild camper told BBC Wales most left no trace and cleaned up after others.
However, some living nearby fear the situation could get worse this summer.
Chris Brady of Tudweiliog Community Council said he feared the area could be inundated with illegal campers as more people opted to holiday in the UK due to Covid-19. ....
