A 48-year-old man who was granted a rare medical release from a Kansas prison has died. Christopher McIntyre was released April 12 from Lansing Correctional Facility because he had terminal cancer.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas says he died Friday. Relatives in Wichita cared for him after his release from Lansing, where he was serving a sentence for aggravated burglary. Kansas prison officials granted his release because of “functional incapacitation,” which applies to people who have medical or mental health conditions so serious they are not considered a threat to the public. ....

Home invasion suspect attacks several residents, fights with officers before arrest: Police

Christopher McIntyre faces multiple felony charges, including several counts of trespassing and assault, police said.
Just after 2 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to multiple calls about a man entering homes and assaulting residents near 600 Pioneer Lane. When they arrived on scene and found McIntyre, he ignored repeated commands to surrender before charging an officer, police said.
“Mr. McIntyre was tased but this was ineffective,” an official said.
According to police, it took several officers to subdue McIntyre and take him into custody. Two of the officers sustained minor injuries in the struggle and were treated and released from a nearby hospital. ....

A 47-year-old man with terminal cancer was freed from a Kansas prison after officials agreed his medical condition is so severe he is not a danger to public safety.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas says Christopher McIntyre was released Monday from the Lansing Correctional Facility in Leavenworth County where he was serving time for aggravated burglary. McIntyre is among 105 ACLU clients who requested clemency from Governor Laura Kelly.
McIntyre was originally scheduled to be released in 2024. His attorneys have said he could die before then. McIntyre said in his clemency application that he has cancer masses in numerous parts of his body. ....
