1. What was your upbringing like, what is your education level, and what brought you to the Killeen area?
I was born and raised in Killeen and spent my entire childhood attending KISD. I attended Harker Heights Elementary, Eastern Hills Middle School, Killeen High School and Harker Heights High School, where I graduated in 2002. I was fortunate enough to earn a scholarship to play football at the University of North Texas, where I earned a degree in Business Economics. It was also at UNT where I met my wife, Erin Mills, who now works as a Parent Educator for Killeen ISD. Shortly after graduating from college, we decided to move back to the only place Iâve called home and raise a family here in Killeen. ....

What was your upbringing like, what is your education level, and what brought you to the Killeen area?
I grew up in a nuclear family household with parents of different races and backgrounds. My father was a helicopter pilot, my mother was a homemaker, and then thereâs my younger brother. Living in multicultural communities such as the Fort Hood/Killeen area gave me the opportunity to be exposed to different cultures and experiences. The Army brought my father to Fort Hood, but my mother convinced him to retire here. I am a graduate of Killeen High School and went on to earn a B.S. in Psychology, M.S. in Computer Info. Systems, and a M.S. in Counseling Psychology. ....

As Killeen ISD's top educator comes up for evaluation, here's a look at KISD performance | Education

The Killeen Independent School District board of trustees will review Superintendent John Craftâs contract this week after voting to postpone the evaluation at the Jan. 19 board meeting.
For the past six years, as superintendent, Craft has been in charge of some 40,000 plus Killeen ISD students and 6,000 employees. Prior to his most recent title, he held the position of KISD deputy superintendent from 2012-14. Before that he was the superintendent of Hamilton School District, which currently boasts 817 students. He began his career in 1999 in Carroll ISD where he held the titles of biology teacher, football and baseball coach, assistant principal and principal. ....

KISD board to look at enrollment and the school calendar for next year at Tuesday's meeting | Education

Along with enrollment, the board will discuss the proposed calendar for next year.
At the end of the meeting, the board will be discussing the appraisal, contract and compensation of KISD Superintendent John Craft.
The board will go into closed session for two items at the end of the meeting to discuss Craftâs performance and his contract before coming out of closed session for the final item to possibly take action.
The board was slated to take action on the Superintendentâs contract at the previous meeting, however, Craft was unable to attend the meeting in person because he had recently tested positive for COVID-19. ....

Filing has begun for the upcoming May election

Candidates who wish to run for Killeen city and school board elections can now file an application do so.
All four district seats for the Killeen City Council will be open for the May 1 election. Two Killeen school board seats are also up for election on the same date.
Councilmembers Debbie Nash-King and Steve Harris will be eligible to run again, but due to term limits, Shirley Fleming will not be allowed to run again. The District 3 seat will also be up for election that was previously held by Jim Kilpatrick, who died Jan. 5 after battling COVID-19.
Nash-King, Harris and Ramon Alvarez have all filed for the upcoming election, city officials confirmed Wednesday, the first day of the filing period. Harris and Nash-King have both filed for reelection and Alvarez has filed for the District 3 seat previously held by Kilpatrick. ....
