Killeen Police ID victim in Memorial Day shooting


The Killeen Police Department has identified a victim in a deadly shooting on Memorial Day.
Police said in a news release Thursday, the victim was a 16-year-old male. His name will not be released due to his age, police said.
KPD said they identified him “through fingerprints by the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences.”
Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Dickens Avenue in north Killeen around 1:21 p.m. Monday for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a young man lying on the side of the road suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the release. The victim was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center on Fort Hood, where he later died from his injuries.

A Bell County judge found a Killeen man guilty this week and sentenced him to years of probation after the man shot another man in the foot earlier this year.

KILLEEN, TX — After several high-profile officer-involved shootings in Central Texas, many youths and even their parents have mixed feelings.
“It should be a death trap when you get pulled over by police. No one should be in fear of their life when you have interaction with police officers. The police have to continue to strive forward to regain that trust again,” said Killeen Resident Garett Galloway.
Some also believe this rift is impacting our youth.
“Maybe there will be more things for the kids to do and officers and people will step out without reaching out to these kids more,” Bell County Resident Gabriel Castro.

Early Voting Begins Today In Killeen District Four Second Vote


Early voting begins Tuesday, June 1st for the City of Killeen's District Four City Council seat.
FOX 44 News reports that the second election is on June 12, and this election follows the tie for the District Four City Council seat in the election that was held on May 1, 2021. The election is only open for voters in District Four, who'll cast ballots for either Steve Harris or Michael Boyd.
Early voting ends on June 8th.
Those looking to take advantage of early voting will have extended hours to do so on the first and last day, with voting stations opening from 7am to 7pm. All other voting days are 8am to 5pm.

Killeen police report afternoon shooting on Memorial Day


The Killeen Police Department posted a report on its Facebook page Monday of a shooting Memorial Day afternoon.
At approximately 1:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Dickens Drive in reference to a shots-fired disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers located a male on the side of the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Medical Center in critical condition.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division are currently investigating this incident, and there is no additional information at this time, KPD reported.
The posting added that there is no imminent danger to the area.

KILLEEN, TX — Just before 1:30 Monday afternoon, the Killeen Police Department responded to a call in the 2200 block of Dickens Drive.
KPD received calls of shots fired, when they arrived they found a man on the side of the road with a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to the Carl R. Darnall Medical Center in critical condition.
The Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation.
The investigation is still ongoing and no more information was provided.

Killeen resident arrested in Boston over the weekend


A Killeen resident was arrested in Massachusetts by the Boston Police Department after a loaded firearm was found during an investigation, police said.
About 3:50 a.m. Saturday, officers were sent to the 700 block of Albany Street in Boston. Upon arrival, they found Saquawana Anderson, 28, of Killeen, after recovering a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun during an investigation inside the premises, according to a post on the Boston Police Department Facebook page on Monday.
The suspect will appear in Boston Municipal Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, according to the post.

Killeen rain to continue this week, could be up to 3 inches


The chances start tonight at 30% before increasing to thunderstorm chances up to 70% on Wednesday.
Through Sunday, chances of rain and thunderstorms will vary between 20% and 70%, according to the National Weather Service website.
The total rainfall totals since the beginning of the year in the Killeen-Fort Hood area is around 9.06 inches. In May, the area has seen about 5.38 inches of rain and 2.15 inches of that rain came over the last week, according to Patricia Sanchez, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Sanchez said that rain this week will be mostly off and on, and the severe concerns will be heavy rain and possible flash flooding.
