This particular example is said to be the recipient of a
“frame-off nut-and-bolt restoration,” according to its Hemmings ad, and we don’t find that at all hard to believe. It’s as stunning a restomod as we’ve ever seen when it comes to the Skylark. ....

Greek tragedy: a chorus of hope in time of plague

Last year, stymied by tour cancellations, actor, artistic director and Classics enthusiast Paul O’Mahony wanted to build a community among fellow performers from his Hove home as the world headed into isolation. Finding “very willing accomplices” at Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies and Brandeis University, he pulled together an international ensemble to read all 32 surviving Greek tragedies in weekly online sessions which kept growing in ambition. From the cast, Tim Delap (

If there’s one thing classicists know it s that ancient Greece did not have a Senate, despite what Trump s defense lawyer, Bruce Castor, might have claimed. But the trotting out of Greco-Roman antiquity, however mistaken, in President Trump
Within the last two months, classicist Victor Davis Hansen was part of the committee behind the now-defunct 1776 Commission Report and insurrectionists infamously paraded many classical symbols during the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6.
Classics are now engaged in a deep reckoning on why these associations have stuck around so easily. Some have suggested that something inherent to the discipline is at fault: we cannot separate out the discipline from the systems of oppression it has supported. In his 2014 memoir “Even This I Get to Experience,” TV legend Norman Lear writes about the busiest period of his life as a time of “joyful stress.”
The 1970s were the pinnacle of Lear’s success as an uber producer, and at one point he simultaneously had eight shows on the air including such landmark sitcoms as “All in the Family,” “One Day at a Time,” “Sanford and Son,” “Good Times,” “Maude,” “The Jeffersons” and “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.”
