After buying a manse on North Street, the First Presbyterian Church in 1854 reserved an initial five to six acres for a cemetery, recognizing the need for a community burying ground. More land was acquired for the cemetery in1864 and 1935, according to the cemetery committee. The 10-acre site is still active. And as I stared up at the sky, relishing in the fact that the only background noise to my evening was the crackling of my campfire and the wind murmuring through tree branches, I felt an overwhelming sense of calm.
