County Lawyers Argue Against Complete Lifting of Injunction Against Church

By City News Service
Apr 1, 2021
GLENDALE (CNS) - Lawyers for Los Angeles County state in new court papers that a preliminary injunction issued by a judge last summer directing a Sun Valley church to refrain from holding indoor church services should be modified only to allow 25% capacity.
The county lawyers are challenging a motion by attorneys for Grace Community Church, who cite two recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions in their argument to lift the preliminary injunction in its entirety.
The preliminary injunction was issued Sept. 10 by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff as a way of stemming the spread of the coronavirus. The measure also directed the church to direct congregation members to wear masks and practice physical distancing if the house of worship decided to hold outdoor services.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A study involving researchers in Los Angeles County, examining whether Trans Sodium Crocetinate protects the threatened brain when given to stroke victims within two hours of an attack, has been closed due to COVID-19 pandemic-related challenges, it was announced today.
“We are disappointed that the unexpected national health emergency prevented us from fully testing this potential brain-protecting drug in stroke patients at this time,'' said Dr. Jeffrey Saver, study co-chair and professor of neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. “The agent remains of great promise and we hope to be able to launch further studies once the pandemic has passed.''

Study: COVID-19 Survivors Might Only Need One Dose of Two-Dose Vaccine

By City News Service
Apr 1, 2021
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A single dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for people who have already had COVID-19 generates an immunologic response similar to that in people who receive the two-dose recommended sequence, according to a study released today by researchers at Cedars-Sinai.
The study suggests that the second dose may not be needed for people who have successfully recovered from a prior coronavirus infection, according to Dr. Susan Cheng, an associate professor of cardiology and director of Public Health Research at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai.
“Our findings extend those from smaller studies reported elsewhere and support a potential strategy of providing a single dose of vaccine to persons with a confirmed prior history of coronavirus infection, along with two doses for people not previously infected," Cheng said. “This approach could maximize the reach of a limited vaccine supply, allowing potentially millions more people to be vaccinated in the U.S. alone."

Fire Erupts at Compton Pallet Yard | The Patriot KEIB AM 1150

By City News Service
Apr 1, 2021
COMPTON (CNS) - What began as a tree fire was pushed by gusting winds into an industrial pallet yard and warehouse complex in Compton today, creating a plume of thick black smoke visible from as far as Orange County and prompting evacuations as embers ignited blazes at homes in an adjacent neighborhood.
A passerby initially reported a fire burning in a tree near Alameda Street and East Rosecrans Avenue around 4:30 p.m., fire officials said.
With the Southland in the tail end of a Santa Ana wind event, gusty conditions quickly pushed the flames into the industrial yard, sparking an inferno as flames chewed through flammable materials stacked in the yard and inside metal-roof structures on the property.
