Medical assistant Erin Wenzel seeks $500,000 in damages from the city for injuries inflicted in August.
A local medical assistant suffered multiple injuries, including a broken arm, after she was slammed to the ground by Portland cops dispersing a protest last year, according to a lawsuit.
Erin Wenzel says she was acting as a street medic and had multiple red cross insignia on her clothing when officers charged forward and struck her several times as she attempted to comply with their orders to move back.
It didn t seem to matter who you were or why you were down there, they were just brutalizing people left and right, Wenzel said in an interview. They were acting like a street gang. ....

Kex Reopens June 9 for Hotel Guests and Diners
After a lengthy closure, the Portland outpost for Icelandic hotel Kex will reopen for the summer, alongside its restaurant and rooftop bar. Dóttir, Kex’s restaurant, will reopen with a new chef, Michael Zeman; Zeman has spent time at Farm Spirit and Ok Omens, and plans to rely on fermentation and preservation methods for the restaurant’s menu. The bar, Lady of the Mountain, will serve low-proof cocktails, weekend brunch, and snacks, which the restaurant’s press release describes as “tropical Northwest.” Both the bar and restaurant are accepting reservations; the hotel is now taking reservations for overnight guests, as well. A driver is facing manslaughter and DUII charges after a deadly crash into a power pole in Northeast Portland late Thursday, May 6.
The passenger who was killed is identified as David P. Dentler, 25, of Portland.According to police, shortly after 11:30 p.m., an officer came across a car that apparently had crashed into a power pole on Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Killingsworth Street. Two people were found inside the car and paramedics were called to respond. ....
