Vaccine hesitancy slowing down Idaho's race against COVID-19

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - Fewer people are lining up to get a needle in their arm as Idahoans feel uncertain about getting a new vaccine.
More than 540,000 people in Idaho are fully vaccinated, making up about 38.5% of the state’s 16 and older population but only 29% of the entire state population.
But the Gem State still isn t keeping up with the rest of the country. Idaho ranks 44th in the nation for COVID-19 vaccination rates, according to the Becker Hospital Review, which is tracking vaccination rates by total state population.

IDAHO FALLS – Dozens of churches in eastern Idaho are uniting for a prayer rally in Idaho Falls on the National Day of Prayer next week.
Three different events are being held at three different locations Thursday, May 6.
Charles Barnes, who attends Christ Community Church in Idaho Falls, is helping to organize it. He tells EastIdahoNews.com the purpose of the event is to bring people together to pray for the problems facing the nation today. Official Notice: BYU-Idaho to continue following COVID-19 guidelines

On April 16 BYU-Idaho sent a notice to students restating that the school would continue to follow Eastern Idaho Public Health District guidelines for COVID-19. It also encouraged students to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
The notice states, “We would like to express our sincere appreciation to students and employees for your efforts to learn and work while adhering to COVID-19 protocols and safety guidelines over the last year. There is much to be hopeful about as we begin spring semester! As the vaccination rollout strategy continues, we must remain vigilant. The CDC directs that we should keep taking precautions even as individuals are fully vaccinated. As we continue to be united in our efforts, we will each contribute to achieving a successful semester together. ....

Guidance for vaccinated people offers increased social movement, not carte blanche

What can you do?
Thatâs the question more and more Teton County residents are likely asking themselves as vaccination numbers skyrocket. Across the county, about a third of residents have been fully vaccinated, according to the Wyoming Department of Health, though that number may not show the complete picture because some members of the workforce live in other counties and some residents went elsewhere for their shots.
For the vaccinated, life can return to something closer to normal, though not what we were used to before the pandemic.
âWe are encouraging people to follow the CDC guidance,â public health response coordinator Rachael Wheeler said. ....
