Perry/Sun Journal WILTON Six people were injured, including three children, just after 11 a.m. Monday when a dump truck filled with rocks tipped over onto a passenger car on U.S. Route 2 West, near the intersection of Jay Street. Emergency responders stabilized the truck with stabilizers, and responders and bystanders helped remove rocks from the 2010 Ford Focus driven by Olin Hiscock, 34, of Wilton. Passengers were Mary Jordan, 40, of Livermore Falls, her 4-year-old child, and two other children, ages 4 and 12, according to police Chief Heidi Wilcox. ....

The brother of homeowner, Sammie Mckenzie, was going by and saw smoke coming from the home at about 7:30 p.m., he said. He went in to get a woman and three children, ages 5, 6, and 7, out, he said. Share WILTON A family escaped safely early Tuesday after a fire started in the wiring underneath a mobile home at 32 Masterman Ave., Fire Rescue Chief Sonny Dunham said. A member of the homeowner’s family saw smoke and fire coming through the floor. It was reported at about 12:24 a.m. The fire started underneath the deck on the back of the house and extended to an outside wall and into the mobile home, Dunham said. The floor got burned in the washer and dryer area. ....
Lawmakers consider setting a closure date for youth prison Advocates spoke in favor of legislation calling for the closure of the Long Creek Youth Development Center. Share Advocates are asking lawmakers to commit to closing Maine’s only youth prison within two years, a step that is still opposed by the state Department of Corrections. Lawmakers are considering a resolution that would direct the department to make a plan for shutting down Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland by June 30, 2023. That plan would include redirecting the prison’s $18 million budget to community services outside the Department of Corrections and turning the building itself into a community center for youth. If passed, the resolution would not be binding like a law would be, but it could set the state on a course that youth activists have demanded for years. ....
