Wade C. Miller


Wade C. Miller - age 87 formerly of Nashville was born July 7, 1933 in Johnson City, TN and moved on to rest and enjoy dessert on Sunday, May 23, 2021, in Knoxville, TN. Wade graduated from Science Hill High School in 1952 where he ran track and played baseball. He graduated from East Tennessee State College (University) in 1956. While at ETSU, he was a member of the ROTC and served in the US Army Reserves, was president of the junior class, and was a founding member of the East Tennessee chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduation, Wade served in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA and Ft. Lewis, WA. He served in the Army from November 25, 1956 through March 17, 1964 where he rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Upon returning from active service, he made it his mission to track down the beautiful girl who had caught his eye before he left for the Army. He married Tresa Lynn Underwood on June 4, 1959 at Trentville Methodist Church in Strawberry Plains, TN ....

May 10, 1867: The East Tennessee Union Flag gave readers a weather prediction: “We have had an abundance of rain in the last few days. If it is true that a certain amount of rain falls every year, we shall have an excessive drought during the coming summer, for the present year has surely received its compliment quickly.”
The East Tennessee Union Flag was a newspaper published in Jonesborough, which was spelled that way on the masthead. However, it was spelled as both Jonesboro and Jonesboro’ inside of the newspaper.
May 10, 1884: The Comet opined, “There are ten men in Johnson City who, standing on each other’s heads, would make a pyramid nearly sixty-two feet high, with the boot and shoe man the ‘bottom rail’, and the furniture man the ‘rider’, and the pyramid would taper from four feet in diameter at the base to a darning needle at the top.” ....

The Whig was a newspaper published in Jonesborough, which was spelled that way in 1841.
May 5, 1887: The Comet reported, “Mr. H.A. Clark, of New York, has been in the city several days, looking over the field with a view of locating a flouring mill here. Seeing the need of such an enterprise in this section and appreciating the inducements offered by Johnson City, he has decided to locate here. Ground has been picked out, and as soon as he returns from New York, he will begin building a mill with a capacity of 50 barrels of flour per day. The mill will be full roller system and will be the largest of the kind in East Tennessee.” ....
