Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday confirmed that he is considering running for vice president in the 2022 elections after his six-year term as the country’s president ends.
Under the 1987 Philippines Constitution, a president can only serve a six-year term. This means Duterte, 76, is no longer eligible to run for the top post, which ends in June 2022.
During a press conference for the inauguration of the LRT 2-East Extension Project, Duterte urged the public to consider him as a vice-presidential candidate and note “to maintain the equilibrium.” ....

Tugade: LRT-2 East Extension, Common Station to start operations this year

Two big-ticket projects in the railway sector are set for launch this year, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur P. Tugade announced on Monday, April 26.

In his presentation during the Sulong Pilipinas 2021 forum Tugade bared that the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) East Extension Project and the Common Station Project are both nearing completion.
“First, the LRT-2 East Extension Project, with two additional stations in Marikina and Antipolo, is set for inauguration in June,” Tugade said.
The East Extension Project intends to add four kilometers to the 13.8-kilometer LRT-2 train line which currently runs from Recto Avenue in Manila to Santolan Station in Marikina. The two new stations are Emerald Station, also in Marikina; and Masinag Station located at the Masinag J ....

LRT-2's new Marikina, Antipolo stations to open in April

In a statement on Thursday, March 4, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said the line’s East Extension Project is already 93.42 percent complete as of Jan. 31 this year.
LRTA Spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said the two additional stations – Emerald Station in Marikina City and Masinag Station at the Masinag Junction in Antipolo City – will have a soft opening on April 26 and will immediately start operations the next day.
In a project briefing and concourse walk-through of the line’s station in Marikina last January. Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade pushed for the immediate completion of the new stations to benefit more commuters amid the pandemic. ....

LRT-2 to reopen Santolan to Anonas run by first quarter of 2021

“The resumption of operations of Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas stations, which were closed after a fire damaged power rectifiers and some railway tracks, is slated this first quarter of 2021,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said in a statement.
Operations from Santolan to Anonas stations have been suspended since October 2019 after a fire damaged two rectifier substations in Katipunan and Anonas.
The resumption of the railway’s full operations was initially set in June 2020 but was delayed as community lockdowns slowed down repairs.
Apart from the expected reopening of the three existing stations, the DOTr mentioned that the two new stations under the LRT-2 East Extension Project – Emerald in Marikina City and Masinag at the Masinag Junction in Antipolo City – would also be operational by April 26. ....
