Times wins eight Keystone awards for COVID coverage, dynamic stories


It s been a tough year for everybody  including for The Beaver County Times.
From personnel changes, layout adjustments and content variance to all that came along with working during a pandemic while also covering the details of the ever-changing status of COVID-19, it s been quite a year.
And yet, reporters at The Times and The Ellwood City Ledger pushed through, covering not only the pandemic but how it affected different communities, industries and individuals. Investigative reporting continued, municipal coverage pursued, and the county s award-winning newspaper picked up awards yet again.
The Times and Ledger netted eight total wins in the 2021 Pennsylvania Keystone Media Awards for this past year, landing three first-place awards, two-second place and three honorable mentions.  ....

Bucks County Community College student newspaper wins 17 awards

The Centurion, the student newspaper of Bucks County Community College, won a record 17 awards in the statewide Keystone Media contest for 2021, despite the fact that its staffers had to produce the paper from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Competing in the two-year college division, students won awards for articles and news videos on everything from student government elections and a shooting in a Bucks County park, to the pandemic and the presidential election. The contest is run by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Journalism Professor Tony Rogers, the Centurion’s faculty advisor, said winning 17 awards was a terrific accomplishment in itself. But the awards, for work done in the spring and fall of 2020, mean even more this year. ....

NEWTOWN, PA The student newspaper of Bucks County Community College took home a record 17 awards in the statewide 2021 Keystone Media Contest.
The Centurion, which competes in the two-year college division, has won more than 130 awards since 2010 in the contest run by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Students won awards for articles and news videos for its coverage of student government elections, a fatal shooting at Nockamixon State Park, the COVID-19 pandemic and the presidential election. ....
