Citizen Advocates welcomes new member to leadership team


MALONE — Citizen Advocates announced a new addition to its leadership team, naming the organization’s chief integration officer on Monday.
Kati Jock joins the nonprofit organization’s executive leadership team after holding other positions with Citizen Advocates after joining the group in 2018, according to a press release from Joseph Riccio, Director of Communications and Government Affairs at Citizen Advocates.
Jock grew up in Brushton and graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical technology, going on to earn a master’s degree in business administration from Clarkson University/Union Graduate College.
Jock joined the local non-profit as director of behavioral health services and has worked as the organization’s director of population health and planning, according to Riccio’s press release, which states, as chief integration officer, Jock is responsible for leading Citizen Advocates’ effor ....

If village approves, SLPD will have embedded therapist | News, Sports, Jobs

SARANAC LAKE A proposed program to embed a therapist in the Saranac Lake Police Department to assist on mental health and addiction calls has received state approval. At a public hearing Thursday, organizers from the village, county and Citizen Advocates shared more details about when, where and how the therapist would work.
The Counselor and Law Enforcement Partnership pilot project would be a collaborative initiative between Citizen Advocates, the Saranac Lake Police Department and Franklin County Community Services to shift some mental health-, homelessness- and substance abuse-related responsibilities from the police onto social work professionals.
This is one of the proposals made by the village’s police review committee, which organized last year after an executive order from Gov. Andrew Cuomo mandated every police department review its policies. ....

24/7 urgent mental health, addiction treatment services coming to St. Lawrence County

OGDENSBURG – Around-the-clock access to urgent mental health and addiction treatment services are coming to St. Lawrence County.
The St. Lawrence County Community Services Board (CSB) recently approved Citizen Advocates’ proposal to establish a 24/7 Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center in Ogdensburg.
“Many communities already have 24/7 urgent care centers for physical health, but less common are those that provide urgent care for mental health or addiction treatment,” said James Button, CEO of Citizen Advocates. “We are deeply grateful to the St. Lawrence County CSB for unanimously approving this innovative service and increased access to behavioral health services, which comes with the additional supports individuals need to live a healthy and full life.” ....

Governor Hutchinson received the final report from the Task Force to Advance the State of Law Enforcement in Arkansas today and shared its recommendations that the Governor intends to support during the 93rd General Assembly in January.“I created the law-enforcement task force in the midst of the civil unrest and violence that arose across the country after the death of George Floyd,” Governor Hutchinson said. “That national crisis led us to assess the state of law enforcement in Arkansas. We want to ensure that we are providing our agencies with the equipment, guidance and training, support, and compensation, that will allow them to perform their jobs at the highest level.
