Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas directed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to discontinue use of the C. Carlos Carreiro Immigration Detention Center in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts by transferring the remaining detained noncitizens out of the facility and terminating the Intergovernmental Services Agreement with the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the 287(g) agreement with the BCSO that is no longer operationally needed.
In a memo to ICE Acting Director Tae Johnson, Secretary Mayorkas stated, “Allow me to state one foundational principle: we will not tolerate the mistreatment of individuals in civil immigration detention or substandard conditions of detention.” ....

Nigerian man reunites with family after release from Semenyih detention centre

His lawyer Vemal Arasan said that Momoh was released at 9pm.
“He was extremely happy to be released but was exhausted. He was so excited to see his daughter, ” he told The Star.
The Shah Alam High Court had on Friday found the detention of Momoh to be unconstitutional and ordered him to be released as soon as practical.
Vemal thanked the Attorney General’s Chambers, especially the deputy public prosecutors, who ensured Momoh’s smooth and fast release.
“They made sure that everything was done and he was released on the same day, ” he said.
High Court judge Ab. Karim Ab. Rahman had ruled that the detention was in violation of Article 5(4) of the Federal Constitution, which requires a non-citizen to be presented before a magistrate within 14 days from the date of arrest ....

PETALING JAYA: It has been 39 days since Nigerian Simon Momoh has been in detention, and his two young daughters keep on crying, asking where he is.
There is nothing much they can do except to look at pictures and videos of him, and to make cards for Momoh, who faces imminent deportation to Nigeria.
