Judge Vanover named chief of 28th Circuit

Family Court Judge Marcus Vanover (Div.1) has been selected by his circuit colleagues as the new Chief Judge for the 28th Judicial Circuit.
Longtime Family Court Judge Marcus Vanover has been named chief judge of the 28th Judicial Circuit.
Vanover is taking over from Jeffrey Burdette, who retired from the circuit s Division 2 judgeship on March 16. The 28th Judicial Circuit is comprised of Pulaski, Lincoln and Rockcastle counties.
Per state judicial regulations, the chief judge is elected biennally by his or her peers in the circuit rather than selected by seniority. However, Vanover is the longest-serving judge currently on the bench with Circuit Judge Teresa Whitaker having been elected for Division 1 just last year and Family Court Judge Jane Adams Venters in 2018. ....

The Family Solutions Group (‘FSG’) report, entitled
What about me?: Reframing Support for Families following Parental Separation leaves us in no doubt as to the problems which are currently facing the family justice system which is, we are told, ‘in crisis’.
A key and unifying factor for the crisis is the volume of applications which find their way before the family court. Applications are ‘growing exponentially’. Those pressures which already exist are exacerbated by the current global health pandemic.
In the longer term, it is clear that proposals will be made for ‘an overhaul of the system’. However, until such time, the Family Solutions Group reminds us that current ‘child focussed legislation, rules and professional duties’ already provide a framework for practitioners and that the proper and consistent use of this framework (by lawyers and co ....
