Young locals musicians can apply to take part in the project by Friday April 23
As part of the celebrations for the Year of Coasts and Waters 2021 supported by Aberdeen Performing Arts, Nevis Ensemble will launch its postponed Water Stories project later this year.
This project will see composer Lisa Robertson work with young people from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire in online creative music workshops that will result in a brand new piece of music centred on the local area and the experiences of the young participants. ....

Aberdeen groups praise continuation of culture funding across city

Councillor Marie Boulton, pictured here in the Aberdeen Art Gallery, has spoken of the importance of culture in Aberdeen.
Groups across Aberdeen have said continued funding within the coming year’s budget is a “vote of confidence” in the city’s cultural sector.
Councillors passed the administration group, which is made up of Scottish Conservative, Aberdeen Labour and Allied Independent councillors when full council met on Wednesday.
Part of the budget included maintaining the budget for cultural groups including Aberdeen Performing Arts, Castegate Arts and Peacock Visual Arts, as well as maintaining £200,000 funding for the music service. ....

Aberdeen’s celebrated crime fiction festival welcomed guests from across the globe this weekend on its entirely virtual debut.
Forced to take their show online this year due to coronavirus restrictions, thousands tuned in to catch some the best international and home-grown talent speak at the Granite Noir festival.

Aberdeen's Granite Noir attracts global audience for first digital festival

Aberdeen’s international crime writing festival Granite Noir attracted audiences from more than 50 countries with its virtual events being viewed more than 14,000 times.
Readers from 52 countries including Canada, Bangladesh, South Africa, Brazil and New Zealand tuned in to last weekend’s festival which took place online due to the current restrictions in place.
Organisers of Granite Noir declared the first online programme a huge success with its 15 events being viewed more than 14,000 times – a figure expected to grow as audiences watch events On Demand.
The popular festival presented conversations with 25 of the world’s leading crime fiction authors and podcasters including Jo Nesbo, Camilla Läckberg, Attica Locke and David Baldacci. ....

Scottish ministers were last night accused of providing “derisory” funding for councils, despite the finance secretary announcing hundreds-of-millions of pounds of support.
Kate Forbes said the backing recognised the “key role” local authorities are to play in the journey to Covid recovery as she detailed bolstered revenue budgets for the Highlands, islands and the north-east councils next year.
Between them, they will receive more than £60 million more in 2021-22 than last year – if the government can win support for its budget from MSPs. ....
