Local fishing pro Jeff Gustafson is in Alabama this week for the 2021 Berkley Bassmaster Elite at Lake Guntersville.
Despite finishing in the top 35 in four of the six events, Gussy tells us the season has had its challenges.
“The whole season has been the…grindiest is the word I’ll use,” says Gustafson, “Every event just about has been tough fishing. I’m kinda looking for the same thing this week.”
He says he’s been in the United States for the past few months and is hopeful to get back to Lake of the Woods soon. ....

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAFF) - Thursday was a busy day in Montgomery as Governor Ivey signed a few bills into law.
The first of those was House Bill 437, the wine shipment bill.
“I want to first thank Representative Terri Collins for putting this legislation forward because it is certainly something the people of Alabama want available to them,” Gov. Ivey said. “Thank you to all involved in putting together a good, clean bill. We are moving Alabama with the times, and I am proud to officially make the wine shipment bill law.” ....

THE LIVEWELL: A Coosa River comeback

Article content
The Bassmaster Elite Series season was back on this past weekend in Alabama at Neely Henry Lake, an impoundment on the Coosa River. This body of water was a new adventure for me and one that I had never seen before last week. Strong storms with heavy rainfall last week caused the lake to flood before the event, making for a roller-coaster tournament, to say the least.
My wife Shelby and I have been in the U.S. for the past couple of months, because the tournament schedule has been steady and because of the difficulty to cross the border back to Canada at this time, so on our off weeks in between tournaments we have been doing quite a bit of fishing at waterbodies near where the next tournament is. For anybody that may not know, we are only allowed three practice days just before our tournaments and prior to that, the lakes are off-limits for a month. Fishing on waters near the tournament venues can be helpful in figuring out what the bass might be doing onc ....

Huntsville s Embassy Suites, pictured at the start of the coronavirus pandemic on March 12, 2020. The hotel, like others in Alabama, is experiencing a rebound in visitors. With that comes the pressure to add more employees.
Jim Pappas is pulling extra duty as general manager at the Hampton Inn in Daphne by helping clean up the hotel rooms and make sure a hot breakfast is served to visitors.
He’s also monitoring the phones, waiting for job applicants to call him back. Staffed typically with 35 workers, the hotel off Interstate 10 next to the city’s popular Gator Boardwalk, needs about seven more full-time workers to help manage a forthcoming busy summer season. ....
