NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Four thousand runners took part in Saturday’s Achilles Hope run to honor athletes with disabilities.
Saturday marked the 31st anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Among the attendees was former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart.
“You have inspired not just myself over these years but the entire country as we reawaken from to possibilities and the hope of everything that we can accomplish. I thank you guys so much for being here,” Stewart told the crowd. ....

Mendon woman recognized as first bilateral amputee NYC marathoner

MENDON, N.Y. (WHEC) We ve all heard the saying in life: It s a marathon, not a sprint.
That certainly was the case for Deb Marcuccilli, 66, a Mendon resident, when she finished the 1994 New York City Marathon in 13 hours and 58 minutes. Twenty-seven years after walking the New York City Marathon on a pair of prosthetic legs, Marcuccili has been recognized by New York Road Runners as the first known bilateral amputee to complete the race.
“It was pretty difficult, but I knew once I reached the 20-mile mark that if I quit, I would come back the next year because that s how I am,” Maruccilli said. “The last six miles were very difficult, but I finished.” ....

The Latest: Islanders to have fully vaccinated fan section

Half of the arena will be used as a fully vaccinated fan section with attendees spaced approximately 3 feet apart with an unoccupied seat between each party. Individuals seated in those sections will have to prove they’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Young adults and children under age 16 not yet eligible for the vaccine may be seated with a vaccinated adult so long as they’ve received a recent negative COVID-19 test result.
Appropriate social distancing, masks and other health protocols will still apply throughout the Coliseum, which seats 14,500.
Entering this week, 66% of Long Island’s adults had received at least one vaccine dose and 53% had completed their vaccine series. ....
