The mother of a helicopter crash victim has described her son as the light of her life at a coronial inquest while asking for recommendations to stop unnecessary deaths.
Stephen Anthony Nicholson Combe, 42, and James Louis Patterson-Gardner,18, were killed when the helicopter they were flying crashed in a remote bush near Queenstown in 2015.
An earlier investigation from the Transport Accident Investigation Authority found the helicopter broke apart in mid air after the rotor blades struck the cabin. ....

Wānaka helicopter company faces charges over fatal crash

The charges were laid by the Civil Aviation Authority in the Queenstown District Court.
In an audio visual appearance on Monday lawyers representing the authority and the company sought a date for a three-week judge-alone trial to take place.

DOC staff member Paul Hondelink was also killed.
Judge John Brandts-Giesen remanded the case until September 30 but said the trial would likely take place later in the year. He excused himself from the trial due to a family connection.
The Alpine Group is majority owned by Nick Wallis’ father Tim Wallis and other family members are shareholders.
