The Brandon School Division’s board of trustees took time out of their regular meeting on Tuesday to remember local education figurehead Beatrice Jolly, who passed away on May 17 at the age of 92.

The Brandon School Division’s board of trustees took time out of their regular meeting on Tuesday to remember local education figurehead Beatrice Jolly, who passed away on May 17 at the age of 92.
Even though Jolly served as a BSD trustee from 2006 to 2010, board chairperson Linda Ross said her contributions extended far beyond this one role.
Bea Jolly of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society helped in presenting the grade one students at Ecole New Era with a new book to take home as part of the the society’s literacy projects in 2013. (File) ....

Over the last four days, officials representing the Brandon School Division and the Park West School Division announced that new COVID-19 cases have emerged in their respective institutions.

Over the last four days, officials representing the Brandon School Division and the Park West School Division announced that new COVID-19 cases have emerged in their respective institutions.
One of the most recent cases came to light on Monday afternoon, with Park West representatives announcing that a student from Major Pratt School in Russell recently tested positive for the virus.
However, since the student hasn’t attended in-person instruction since May 7, officials believe there is no risk of school transmission after consulting with members of public health. ....

Schools in both Brandon and Winnipeg are shifting back to primarily remote learning on Wednesday.
The change is expected to remain in place until May 30, Education Minister Cliff Cullen announced during a Sunday afternoon media briefing.

Additional closures and measures will be considered as new circumstances come forward, chief provincial public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said.

While in-person learning remains the norm in the Brandon School Division, acting superintendent Mathew Gustafson said the pieces are in place to make the transition to full-remote learning if need be.
During a Monday afternoon conversation with the Sun, Gustafson said that BSD officials have been preparing for this contingency since the fall of 2020, making sure proper staff and resources are waiting in the wings if local COVID-19 cases take a particularly nasty turn. ....
