He said he could not support his party s stance to back the Norwich Northern Distributor Road Western Link, which left the party looking for a new leader. And Brian Watkins, who represents Eaton at County Hall, has been unanimously elected as group leader, with Tim Adams, councillor for Cromer, as his deputy. Mr Watkins said: “There are big challenges and decisions ahead for this council and the Lib Dems will always work to get the best results possible for Norfolk residents. ....
Breckland councillor Harry Clarke said: While increased lighting may not change the prevalence of such incidents, it will certainly have a deterrent effect and may make everybody, particularly women, feel safer, although no one should be put in this position. Norfolk County Council (NCC) is responsible for more than 50,000 street lights, while other local councils in the region are responsible for another 20,000. As part of energy and cost saving measures, part night lighting is in place in low crime areas, where lights are switched off for five hours, with NCC working alongside Norfolk Police to identify areas where dusk to dawn lighting will help reduce crime. ....

Looking forward, Mr Adams said there was no room for complacency. He said: I m confident it s going to be very different but we re going to have a very nice summer, things are going to be very different. We re not going to have all of our events it will be more subdued but we re still planning for the future here in Cromer supporting a few events and our winter events, so we re optimistic that by that point in time things can start to get back to normal.
