Shark Mark Cuban Launches Generic Drug Business

FiercePharmaarticle discussed the newest business venture for billionaire serial entrepreneur and investor. Cuban is probably best known as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and tv personality on Shark Tank where he and a panel of other investors listen to startups pitches and decide whether or not to invest. Cuban’s new company is called Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, and it touts itself as providing “radically transparent, low cost versions of high cost generic drugs.”
Consistent with the message of transparency, Cuban says the company will disclose the cost of development and distribution for each of its products and then add a 15% margin to arrive at a wholesale price. The company’s first product will be albendazole, an antiparasitic with an average cash price of $225 per tablet, that Cost Plus will sell at $20 per tablet. Cuban is building a manufacturing facility in Dallas, and plans to be marketing more than 100 drugs by the end of 2021. ....

A new Dallas-based generic drug company emerged from stealth mode last week and it’s got Dallas billionaire Mark Cuban’s name all over it.
The startup is called Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, and its website pledges to provide low-cost versions of high-cost generic drugs with “radical transparency” about how it prices its drugs.
The company was originally named Osh’s Affordable Pharmaceuticals after its founder and CEO Alex Oshmyansky. It launched in 2018 and, spurred by a cold email pitch, received backing from Cuban shortly after. ....

Billionaire investor Mark Cuban is famous for critiquing startup plans on the hit TV series “Shark Tank,” often dismissing would-be entrepreneurs with the show’s famous line, “I’m out.” But Cuban has also been a longtime critic of high health costs and now he’s jumping in to offer one solution.
Cuban has launched a new company, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, which has a plan to offer low-cost rivals to overpriced generic drugs. The company is launching with one product: albendazole, an antiparasitic.
