On Thursday, December 10, 2020, Governor Ralph North announced further actions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within the Commonwealth. While Virginia’s COVID-19 case count and positivity rate remain relatively low compared to other states, new cases and hospitalizations continue to rise in all areas of the Commonwealth. Thus, the Governor has ordered further, more restrictive, measures to fight the spread of the disease. The following measures will take effect at 12:01am on Monday, December 14:
All Virginians must remain at their place of residence between the hours of 12:00am and 5:00am, with exceptions that include traveling to and from work, obtaining goods or food, and seeking medical attention. ....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County is one of nearly 70 counties that have reached the critical “red zone” of COVID-19 community spread in North Carolina.
It signals a crucial time in the pandemic for the state as more than 90 percent of North Carolina counties are now designated as red or orange.
Many neighboring counties were already in the red, which signals the most severe spread of the virus based on case rates, percent of positive tests and current strain on hospital beds and staff. ....

The report takes into account three metrics: case rate, the percent of tests that are positive and hospital impact within the county.

If you are in a red or orange county, you should limit going out to essential activities and avoid people you don t live with, she said.
Since the last report was released two weeks ago, the number of counties in the red has increased from 48 to 65.
The number of counties in the orange has increased by 27.
This is alarming, Governor Roy Cooper said during a news conference on Tuesday. 92 of our 100 counties are designated as red or orange. In the last week, we saw a daily case record of 8,444 with the percent of tests positive coming back at more than 10 percent. This virus continues to spread quickly. McDowell moves to red -- critical -- on state COVID-19 alert system

The McDowell County Health Department reported Tuesday that 50 additional McDowell County residents have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). And McDowell is now a red county in the statewide COVID-19 County Alert System.
The latest number brings the total number of positives to 2,685 in McDowell County. As of Tuesday’s report, there were 29,732 tests conducted, 26,762 negative results and 285 tests are pending results. Presently, there are 429 individuals in quarantine, 2,211 out of quarantine and 45 deaths. McDowell County’s 14-day positivity rate is 16.7%, according to a news release.
The red classification means that there is a critical community spread of COVID-19 in a county. ....
