AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Code Blue Warming Station is going into their longest activation period theyâve ever had, housing people for a tenth night in a row.
The non-profit housed a record 105 people last night and they expect tonightâs number similar.
âWe still have more to come. It doesnât look like weâll be able to not open until maybe this weekend. So, weâve got definitely a few more nights. And then it looks like the first part of next week, weâll be back at it again. City officials took some time during Wednesday’s COVID-19 news conference to give an update on the energy situation affecting the Texas Panhandle as inclement winter weather continues across the region.
This comes after city of Amarillo and Canyon officials, as well as representatives from Potter and Randall counties, came together Tuesday evening in a news conference to plead with members of the community to conserve energy resources to the maximum extent until the weather passes. ....

If you have been outside today, you ve noticed that the cold is finally starting to settle in here in Amarillo. Now, I made the foolish mistake of bringing just my hoodie and light jacket instead of my down coat. a situation I can remedy later on this afternoon. But not all of us are that fortunate.
Cold snaps like these are hard on folks who don t have much and doubly so for those who don t have a warm place to call home. An overpass wont keep you sheltered when the temperatures fall below freezing for days on end. And I don t really particularly like hearing about the unfortunate ones who succumbed to the cold. ....

Amarillo Code Blue Warming Station Activated And Needs Supplies
With the incredible cold weather that has moved into the Amarillo area the Code Blue Warming Station expects to be open nine plus days, which would be its longest service period in over three years. Code Blue Warming Station serves unsheltered homeless in the Amarillo area. They are open 7 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. during extreme winter weather at 207 N. Tyler, Amarillo.
The Code Blue Warming Station expects about 50 people a night this week, the station also needs cleaning supplies for staff and guests.
