Cathay Pacific is temporarily banned from flying on one of its few remaining operational routes. Owing to the carriage of five passengers who tested positive for COVID-19 on a flight from Manila over the weekend, Hong Kong’s health department has stepped in and paused flights from Manila until March 28.

In a statement issued by Hong Kong’s Department of Health on Sunday, the Hong Kong Government confirmed it had banned the landing of commercial Cathay Pacific flights from Manila until March 28. ....

Government tightens compulsory quarantine requirements for persons arriving at Hong Kong who have stayed in United Kingdom
The Government has gazetted the amendments to the Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Persons Arriving at Hong Kong Regulation (Cap. 599C), the Compulsory Quarantine of Persons Arriving at Hong Kong from Foreign Places Regulation (Cap. 599E) and the Prevention and Control of Disease (Regulation of Cross-boundary Conveyances and Travellers) Regulation (Cap. 599H) as well as the relevant specifications to tighten the compulsory quarantine requirements for persons arriving at Hong Kong who have stayed in the United Kingdom (UK).
     A Government spokesman said, The global pandemic situation is getting more serious. A new virus variant with higher transmissibility is spotted in the UK and certain European countries. We have to stay vigilant for preventing the importation of cases. ....

The Government today announced it will gazette new specifications to impose conditions on travellers who visited Canada within 14 days before arriving in Hong Kong to combat COVID-19 more effectively.
 
The Food & Health Bureau said the global COVID-19 epidemic situation is becoming increasingly severe, with the daily number of new cases rising from around 70,000 to 100,000 between late March and mid-May, and further increasing to a new height of around 460,000 to 880,000 since early November.
 
Given the severe global pandemic situation, Hong Kong cannot afford to drop its guard on entry prevention and control measures, the bureau added. ....

Airlines flying to Hong Kong with even a single Covid-19-positive passenger aboard now face a two-week ban if any other travellers on the flight fail to comply with pandemic control measures under tough new rules aimed at preventing imported cases, the Post has learned.
But while the move places a stricter emphasis on compliance with regulations governing the passenger screening process, there are still no penalties tied to failures of due diligence that do not involve an imported infection. ....
