Research collaboration addresses COVID-19 myths in African communities
Western Sydney University academics, Associate Professor Kingsley Agho and Research Fellow Dr Levi U Osuagwu, have led an international research collaboration assessing the impact of COVID-19 on the world’s African communities.
According to Associate Professor Agho from the University’s School of Health Sciences and Translational Health Research Institute, the African Translation Research group, was formed to measure and respond to misinformation, misconceptions and myths that spread during lockdown periods among African communities.
“This research group came together out of necessity during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Associate Professor Agho. ....

DeWorm3 at NHM: Celebrating the Intervention Phase
Since 2015, DeWorm3 has been managed from a central hub at the Natural History Museum, and after five and a half successful years we are delighted to close out the programme on a high after the prodigious delivery of the Intervention Phase.
DeWorm3 is a large-scale, community cluster randomised trial which seeks to determine the feasibility of interrupting the transmission of soil transmitted helminths (STH) in India, Malawi, and Benin. Overseen by Senior Responsible Officer Dr Tim Littlewood and Principal Investigator Dr Judd Walson (University of Washington), the programme was originally conceived as a 5 year Neglected Tropical Disease investment from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which aimed to develop effective strategies for scaling-up STH transmission interruption programs. This was done by broadly administering the deworming drug albendazole to people of all age groups in affected areas (community-wide dewor ....

KU students to present at Kansas Undergraduate Research Days

Tue, 03/02/2021
LAWRENCE – Students from each of the Kansas Board of Regents four-year public universities will share work during Kansas’ Undergraduate Research Days. The 2021 event will take place online March 2-4.
Ten University of Kansas students will share their work during the free event, which is hosted this year by Fort Hays State University.
“This event is a chance for our students to highlight the undergraduate research opportunities they have had as a result of their studies at the University of Kansas, as well as how this work enhances their own education while also improving the lives of Kansans. Although it is sad that we cannot meet in the Capitol, this virtual event should make it easier for more people to see the wonderful work being done by undergraduate students at KU and across the state,” said Alison Olcott, director of the Center for Undergraduate Research. ....
